We've been keeping a close eye on the Fashion Week posts at our favorite blogs, and there were no surprises so pleasant as avant-garde couturier Jean-Paul Gaultier's ascent into bridal madness as he closed his Spring 2008 ready-to-wear collection with thirteen pirate-inspired wedding confections, including the saucy ensemble to the left. We're not nuts about the big bow and layered skirt, but there are lessons to take away from this: this season, it's elbow length gloves or bust, and abbreviated veils mean modernity with a hint of vintage charm.

You want a memorable wedding dress? Try sheer tulle and a train that has more in common with a cape than an aisle-duster. One thing's for sure, with this profusion of socks, gloves, belts, and hats, this will be the season of the well-accessorized bride.
