Matching Dresses Are For Girl Scouts, and Other Bridesmaid Facts

postcard.jpg
Being bookended by a passel of identically-dressed bridal bodyguards is sooo over; we want bridesmaids, thank you, not Gwen Stefani-esque Harajuku girls. So what to do, then? Rather than dressing your girls up like quintuplets, take the matching trend only so far: if you're committed to your wedding colors and you want them to match, offer autonomy in the shape of mix and match separates so you can have your daydream theme of creamsicle orange gowns without forcing your BFFs into identical strapless contraptions. Not that committed to color? Go the opposite way with freedom of shade in the shape you decide. Continue Reading Matching Dresses Are For Girl Scouts, and Other Bridesmaid Facts »

4Eclectic Table Cloths. For a wedding look that's very fall 2007, forgo the typical grim linen table cloths in favor of something a little more funky. From textures to toile, Bridezilla's adventures at Wedding Salon taught her an important lesson: for fall 2007 weddings, table cloths are no longer content to play the wall flower, utilizing bold patterns and sensual fabrics to take center stage. In fact, the designer who created the motif pictured above said the table cloth was what inspired this whole eclectic-elegant look. Here are a few more great examples of how to update your wedding table cloth for a more light-spirited look.

Wednesday Name Brand Pronunciation: Agent Provocateur

Agent Provocateur
Pronunciation:
ah-zhant pruh-vok-ah-tur

k-moss.jpg
Being Bridezilla means going beyond Victoria's Secret in sexy looks like this one.

Created in the UK, pronounced like the French, and hot no matter your country code, Agent Provocateur revitalized the luxury lingerie market with their flagship London location, decidedly risque looks, and racy advertisements. With ensembles ranging from flirty to downright salacious, AP made a name for itself as the place to get high-quality lingerie with the flash of Frederick's of Hollywood and the class of La Perla, making it the uniform of honeymoon-bound Bridezillas everywhere. We like to wear the classic Gangster get-up while tidying up the house for the weekly wedding planning/poker game session with the girls - it just makes us feel pretty, you know?

We also love the saucy yet mysterious Francoise look, pictured above on Kate Moss, and we adore even more their decision to use indie goddess and girlcrush Maggie Gyllenhaal in their latest series of ads. As far as we're concerned, these are wedding gifts to your future husband; just mark them off as an essential Bridezilla business expense (and don't forget the fishnet stockings).

Bridezilla Dream Destinations: Rio de Janeiro

cope.jpg
Copacabana, Carnaval, and beach bodies so tanned and perfect you'd think the entire city was an ad for a fitness magazine - welcome to Brazil, querida (that's Portuguese for darling, darlings). We hear Brazil has fabulous forests and mountains to explore, but since our Jimmy Choos disagree with that sort of terrain we prefer to stick to the safer areas. What can we say? Gorgeous beaches and good food just make us feel secure. Continue Reading Bridezilla Dream Destinations: Rio de Janeiro »

Wedding Flick Of the Week: 27 Dresses

heigl2.jpg

This week's wedding flick "27 Dresses" stars Bridezilla's beloved Katherine Heigl as a 27-time bridesmaid. While we think this has the potential to be a fabulous premise, the same person who ruined the Devil Wears Prada film adaptation is working their corny magic on another concept that could have been quite cool. Paging Aline Brosh Mckenna, must all of your screenplays include some slapstick moment like a cellphone being tossed in a fountain by a newly independent young woman, or, in this case, a bridesmaid getting knocked unconscious by a bouquet? We don't even see how that's possible, unless it was this one. Another pet peeve of ours is when bombshell gorgeous actresses like Heigl try and disguise themselves as the mousy understudy type, aka Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding. Ludicrous. Anyway, the only reason to watch this pathetic trailer is for the bang at the end where Heigl screams something about "having hot hate sex with whomever I want." Bridezilla can't help but wonder, what in Hades is this"hot hate sex?" Have any bridezillas out there had it, and is there hazing involved? Bridezilla is dying to know, so please post if you have the haps, skinny, 411, or whatever else you kids are saying these days. If you're in the market for a hot spinster date, this bummer of a movie debuts January 11, 2008. Bridezilla dares you to wear your bridesmaid dress.

Flora Fondant Wedding Cake Spectacular

cold.jpg
It's a little-known fact that Bridezillas are hard-wired to love two things: sugar and flowers. No, not pedestrian checkout aisle billion-calorie candy bars or wilted-edge hospital gift shop carnations; we like our sugar pure and flowers fabulous, and we like best when the two are combined for one of the wedding world's finest creations, the sugar flower, most often seen on that treasure of fondant indulgence, the wedding cake. Bridezilla Goes Gaga for Gaultier

We've been keeping a close eye on the Fashion Week posts at our favorite blogs, and there were no surprises so pleasant as avant-garde couturier Jean-Paul Gaultier's ascent into bridal madness as he closed his Spring 2008 ready-to-wear collection with thirteen pirate-inspired wedding confections, including the saucy ensemble to the left. Fall Wedding Trend #3: Wedding Salon Spectacular

DSCN0314.JPG 5Sky-high Centerpieces.

The upwardly-mobile Bridezilla will be happy to know that fall wedding centerpieces are also catching the vertical vision. Towering flowers, glaciers of glass and bundles of big twisty branches were all the rage at Wedding Salon, and Bridezilla can clearly see why! Who wants a big fat squatty centerpiece when you could have perhaps, an actual turret of tulips? As Bridezilla always says, when it comes to your wedding, the sky is just the beginning-and the new fall wedding centerpiece styles express just that!

Eva Longoria Gets Back Into Our Good Graces

Darlings, if you mean to make a sex tape, please go about it this way:

The recently wed Eva Longoria made her point with this parody video: celeb sex tapes are tawdry and too painfully numerous. Although we didn't like her wedding, we recognize that million-dollar nondescript nuptials can happen to any Bridezilla, and she does display the key Bridezilla trait of startling wit. So long as she keeps up with clever moments like this and fabulous frocks besides, we're inclined toward eventual forgiveness.

On the sex tape note, we say if you want to keep your marriage spicy, take a page from Dita's book with a saucy burlesque striptease or a pin-up shot or two to tuck into his briefcase - the latter at least keeps you clothed enough to get you a free pass should future houseguests come upon your precious Polaroids.

Bridezilla of the Month: The Bride of Borat

isla-fisher-pregnant.jpg

For spooky October's Bridezilla of the Month, who else would do but the kooky bridesmaid who immortalized the Bridezilla credo "Don't ever leave me....because I'd find you."(Excerpted below for your viewing pleasure) From bedroom fetishes to Fatal Attraction endearments, her role in Wedding Crashers alone would be enough to woo us to christening Isla Fisher as Bridezilla of the Month. But that's just the beginning...
Factor in her upcoming nuptials to none other than Borat, her two best-selling trashy romance novels she wrote at age 18, and her stint as a pantomime, and Fisher's got the Bridezilla of the Month title all sewn up.
Bridezilla Bonus Tips: Not content to rest on her supporting actress laurels, Fisher is making bold moves for female lead comedians, piloting a project called "Groupies" with fellow comedienne and beloved Bridezilla Amy Poehler! Take that,Warner Brothers! Last but not least, she's starring as the irrepressible Becky Bloomwood in the upcoming Shopaholic movie, a character we all know was based on Bridezilla herself. Fierce!

The sauciest rehearsal dinner frock.

Depending on your channels of choice, you might have first tuned in and turned on to Catherine Malandrino after seeing the Sex And The City ep that took place entirely in her Soho shop, or maybe you caught her Project Runway guest spot. There's a reason she gets called up for high profile gigs like those. After a ten-year stint as head designer at Diane Von Furstenburg, the Grenoble-born Malandrino launched her own line to industry and celebrity acclaim - she landed the Sex And The City spot after a personal call from Sarah Jessica Parker, who loved her Parisian-influenced collection. With a recent launch into shoes, she's poised to take over your entire closet!

We love this fabulous red silk number because you can take it from work (classed up with a white cardigan) to a night out on the town (with saucy heels). For more Malandrino, hit Revolve, Shopbop, or her official site!

Bridezilla Wedding Flick of the Week: Sex and the City

sexcity2wimg0310_468x754.jpg In this spirit of the trick-or-treating month, this week's Friday Bridezilla post is half frock, half flick. Basically we have unearthed this sneak peek at the new Sex and the City movie coming out May 2008, in which the beloved Carrie Bradshaw debuts a fierce Vivienne Westwood wedding gown-and-feathers combo. The movie isn't coming out until spring, but the SATC cast still provides a satisfying feast of fall fashion inspiration with their avant garde finery. Bridezilla Bonus Tip: These photo stills are quite a treat, so here comes the trick! Bridezilla has it on good authority that this image of Carrie getting married is just part of the movie's dream sequence, and in fact isn't part of the real plot! Brilliant, Bridezillas are suckers for a good bridal bait-and-switch!

The Finer Things In Life: The Very Best Luxury Airlines

flight.bmp
There are certain indignities one has to deal with in early life - public school, Wal-Mart, suburbia. One of the worst, however, has to be the dreaded economy class flight. After racing to arrive on time, you have to deal with long lines (so unacceptable in heels), seats that squish even the most size four of hips, and flat soda and stale peanuts to keep you sustained as the tiny child across the aisle wails its displeasure at the world. Well, Bridezilla says no more! When it's time to take your honeymoon, don't even think about bookending your one or two weeks of bliss with the sardine crush of discount airlines: consult Bridezilla's honeymoon destination-friendly list of the very best luxury airlines to keep you well-rested, fed, and tended to just as a Bridezilla should be. 5 Steps to Avoiding "Starter Husband" Syndrome

startyourhusbands.jpg

We all know the scenario. One spouse, red-eyed and mottled with tears, asks in a shaky voice, "Why, why now? I mean, we're married. That's supposed to mean something." The other spouse is stoic, staring at the floor, mumbling "I just don't feel like this is right anymore. I need to be by myself again." The twist? Now the spouse who wants out is the woman, and the beseeching wreck is the starter husband she leaves in her red-soled wake.

Indeed, it's been known for a while that Bridezillas are the new bachelors, so some would say it was only a matter of time before we became the new serial monogamists too. According to the Marie Claire article on this subject,"Marriage is the new dating, and kids are the new marriage." While Bridezilla concedes this may be the case, we also believe Bridezillas can do better! Scroll down for 5 ways to avoid an "entry-level" marriage.

Science Breakthrough show Feminist Bridezillas have Best Marriages

gloria_steinem.jpg

What do Gloria Steinem and science have in common? The latter is now jumping on the liberal love bandwagon by asserting that feminists do indeed have happier marriages than non-feminists. Bridezilla of course already knows this, but here are details for the rest of you.
According to today's Science Daily article entitled "Feminism and Romance Go Hand in Hand,"....having a feminist partner was linked to healthier heterosexual relationships for women. Men with feminist partners also reported both more stable relationships and greater sexual satisfaction. According to these results, feminism does not predict poor romantic relationships, in fact quite the opposite." Word...forget whatcha huurrd.

The Finer Things In Life: Yes, Sometimes We Eat

storefront.jpg
It's Bridezilla instinct to avoid any shops with "mart," "barn," or "outlet" in the name - especially when it comes to food. Sure, it's a feeling you can ignore when lured by Last Call or the Rack, but when it comes to the low-cal cuisine you let grace your table, the local downmarket chain just isn't going to cut it. The Bridal Coif: Is The Updo Over?

HG051m.jpg
We've always been fans of the simple, chic updo for the wedding day, the better to support the veil/tiara/hippie-chic crown of flowers, but today we're re-thinking. The recent resurgence of old-Hollywood glamour has us craving the vintage big curls and scarlet lips combo seen back in the day on starlets like Rita Hayworth and Veronica Lake. We've been seeing the look crop up again from the runway to the red carpet, and now it has us thinking - could loose curls possibly replace the classic chignon? Manhattan Bridezilla Has Completely Understandable Reaction to Floral Screw-Up

rust.jpg
Via The Wedding Register comes this tale of a hydrangea-centered bait and switch starring an Upper East Side bride refusing to wilt in the face of florist crooks who can't tell the difference between pastel pink and rust. Excuse us? Those Crayons aren't even in the same section of the box.

After spending $28,000+ on flower arrangements for her ceremony, bride Elana Glatt was justifiably stunned to find the dark rust and green hydrangeas she'd requested for her centerpieces replaced by wilted hydrangeas in shades of pastel pink and green and stuffed into dusty vases. This time, florist Stamos Arakas chose the wrong Bridezilla to mess with - Glatt's day job is as a high-powered Manhattan attorney. Hell hath no fury like a litigious Bridezilla scorned.

DVF%20Darren.JPG
The DVF Darren Dress: Perfect for Wedding Errands.
Face it, a Bridezilla in her prime has hours that would make grown businessmen shudder. While you are pounding the pavement 8 to 6 on the hunt for perfect peonies and an eleven-tier wedding cake that doesn't look "overdone," this crisp frock will make you feel pretty, clean and in control. What caught our eye about this dress was the careful fit that would look great on any Bridezilla body type, as well as the brilliant details. The mini-keyhole neckline has an optional hook and eye closure you can utilize at your discretion, and the subtle side pockets are ingenious for carrying the Bridezilla Trifecta: keys, compact, and credit card. Pair this perfect day dress with big tribal beads and flip-flops for a Bridezilla statement, or a dainty chain and kitten heels to go 'zilla incognita. Four more gorgeous pre-wedding gowns after the jump, so read on!

Wednesday Name Brand Pronunciation: Comme des Garcons

Comme des Garcons
Pronunciation:
cahm day gar-sohn

370813051A_2.jpg
Fearless Bridezillas embrace chiffon wedding chic in this daring top.

Despite the French name (meaning "like boys"), avant-garde label Comme des Garcons originated in Tokyo, Japan. Founder and designer Rei Kawakubo first caught the attention of the fashion world with her debut Paris show in 1981, where she stunned French fashion critics with her unique vision of a distressed, asymmetrical, and largely monochromatic wardrobe in a futuristic collection that relied predominately on the color black. In the years since, the label's embraced a wider color palette but kept the edgy, progressive spirit that makes it stand out from the rest of the pack. Lucky Londoners get to visit the CDG emporium at the Dover Street Market, but until you get there, you can buy online at shops like Yoox.

We love this fabulous wedding white chiffon top for its artfully distressed edges, trading frothy excess for a look that's demure yet daring. Pair it with the matching skirt and skip the wedding dress altogether! (We're just kidding...mostly.)

Do you have amazing advice to give? Of course you do. As a Bridezilla, you know everything, and what you don't know, you can research. Or make up. Um, we mean research. The point is, as really smart women, we're often asked for advice, but that doesn't mean we don't sometimes need it ourselves. After all, most women aren't born with an encyclopedic knowledge of fashion! (Unless they're born in Paris.) We don't know everything there is to know about weddings, either, believe it or not. After all, on the Big Day your ladies are sporting pinched, powdered and pinked complexions, but it's up to Bridezilla to spruce up her bridesmaids' second set of cheeks. How? As the Smart Gals logo puts it, with "some inspirational sass for your fantastic ass." Loves it!
What Bridezilla adores about these bridesmaid gifts is that-not only is each thong deliciously comfortable-but they are also each inscribed with a special sassy catchphrase or nickname to reflect the individual personalities of the smart, savvy women in Bridezilla's bridesmaid set. Practical gifts, instantly personalized!? Yes please! Your bridesmaids will thank you every time they pump gas in low-rises. Bridezilla's got one for each of your ladies, so please enjoy the (ahem) spread at Smart Ass. Psst, we couldn't resist mentioning there's one for Bridezilla! DSCN0547.jpg

Engagement Ring Spotlight: Quercus from Barneys

Well, we especially like how, in the trendy sea of severe platinum solitaires, this ring radiates rosiness, warmth and light. At the same time, the sexy crust of diamonds provides this bauble just the right blinging boost. Made from smooth, opulent topaz instead of a glittery pointy diamond, this ring breaks the m
